The 131st CLLA National Convention began with the Board of Governors Meeting on Wednesday morning.

Networking activities began with ‘Paint Fest’ as attendees arrived at the 131st CLLA National Convention  on Wednesday.

Education sessions at the 131st CLLA National Convention were launched with Legislative Forum presented by Daniel C. KerrickHogan McDaniel, Wilmington, DE, Jeffrey N. SchatzmanSchatzman & Schatzman, PA, Miami, FL, and Gilbert M. SingerMarcadis Singer P.A., Tampa, FL.

CLLA panelists provided a review of CLLA legislative and government affairs efforts during the past year, informed members about the political make-up of the current Congress and possibilities for legislation impacting the commercial law, and educated attendees about the legislative process; including drafting legislation and policy positions for consideration by members of Congress and aligned interested parties and organizations.

New attendees at the 131st CLLA National Convention were greeted and welcomed at the exclusive First Time Attendees Orientation Wednesday evening.

Attendees found a moment to reconnect, as they celebrated the first night of National at the Welcome Reception Wednesday night.

After dinner, attendees met up at the hotel for Games Galore Nightcap to unwind with a nightcap and a little competition over late-night gaming including ping pong, foosball, cornhole, and more! 

Thursday, May 15

Networking opportunities began at Thursday morning breakfast, followed by the Welcome/Annual Business Meeting.

Thursday continued with a full slate of educational sessions before lunch starting with Commercial Accounts Under Threat: Navigating The California Rosenthal Act And Defending The Impending Surge Of Lawsuits presented by panelists Timothy GrimesBARR Credit Services, Tucson, AZ, Regina SloweyBarron & Newburger, PC, Troy, MI and  Lorna Walker, Sweet & Walker, PC, San Francisco, CA.

Ronald PetersonOf Counsel at Jenner & Block, LLP, Chicago, IL presented Hot Topics In Bankruptcy Case Law. 

Collecting In A New Era: The Future Post-Chevron and The 2025 Elections
was presented by panelists Stefanie H. JackmanTroutman Pepper Locke, LLP, Atlanta, GA and Areyh D. DermanClark Hill, PLC, Chicago, IL.

Valuation In Bankruptcy Or Avoidance was presented by panelists Kirk B. BurkleyBernstein-Burkley, PC, Pittsburgh, PA,  Peter M. GannottGannott Law Group, PLCC, Louisville, KY and Randall WoolleyDarcy & Devassy, PC, Chicago, IL.

Attendees enjoyed a General Membership Lunch at the Swiss Hotel.

The CLLA 131st National Convention hosted a Women’s Empowerment & Networking Luncheon that benefited Dress for Success Greater Chicago, an extraordinary organization committed to empowering women on their journey toward economic independence. The luncheon included keynote speaker, Keli Frazier-Cox, founder of Promote Leaders LLC, who shared her insights on “Finding Your Passion and Purpose in Giving.”

After lunch, education continued with Drone Law: Look Up In The Sky… It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s A Drone! presented by Robert G. KirkWilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP, Washington, DC.

Simmering Issues In Chapter 11: The New Frontier with panelists Hon. Judith K. Fitzgerald (ret.)Tucker Arensberg, Pittsburgh, PA, Candice L. KlineSaul Ewing, LLP, Chicago, IL , Prof. Bruce A. Networking never stops at National. Attendees enjoyed the fast-paced, hilarious, and competitive Commercial Law Feud Game as they try to guess the answers to survey questions!

The Thursday Evening Social provided a casual gathering opportunity for attendees to expand their network in a relaxed setting. It also included snacks, and drinks!

Back by popular demand… It’s Karaoke Night! Attendees joined the New Members’ Section Executive Council and fellow colleagues at Karaoke Nightcap & Desserts to sing their hearts out all while networking!
